Aurora Tracker

Introduction

Aurora Tracker is a progressive web application (PWA) that helps you monitor aurora borealis conditions, including real-time solar wind data, geomagnetic activity, and local cloud cover. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and what we do — and don't — collect.

Information We Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data.

Aurora Tracker does not require user accounts, registration, or authentication. There are no cookies used for tracking, and no advertising or third-party analytics services are integrated into the app.

Location Data

If you grant permission, the app accesses your device's location solely to display local cloud cover and aurora probability for your area. This location data is:

Used only in your browser to fetch relevant weather information
Sent directly to the Open-Meteo weather API to retrieve local conditions
Never stored on our servers
Never shared with third parties for tracking or advertising

You can deny or revoke location access at any time through your browser or device settings. The app will continue to function with global aurora data, but local forecasts will be unavailable.

How We Use Information

The app uses data exclusively to provide aurora forecasting features:

Displaying real-time solar wind and geomagnetic activity data
Showing local cloud cover and aurora visibility probability based on your location
Sending optional push notifications for geomagnetic storm alerts

No information is used for profiling, advertising, or any purpose beyond the core functionality of the app.

Data Sources

Aurora Tracker fetches publicly available scientific data from the following third-party APIs:

NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center — solar wind parameters, geomagnetic indices, and aurora forecasts
NASA DONKI (Database Of Notifications, Knowledge, Information) — coronal mass ejection and solar flare event data
Open-Meteo — local weather and cloud cover conditions

These services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them if you have concerns about how they handle requests.

Third-Party Services

Aurora Tracker does not integrate any:

Advertising networks
Analytics or tracking services
Social media plugins or SDKs
Data brokers or marketing tools

The app is hosted on Railway. Network requests to the app are subject to Railway's standard infrastructure practices.

Push Notifications

Aurora Tracker offers optional push notifications to alert you about significant geomagnetic storm events. These notifications:

Are entirely opt-in — you must explicitly grant permission
Can be disabled at any time through your browser or device settings
Do not require any personal information beyond the browser-generated push subscription token

Children's Privacy

Aurora Tracker does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected or stored, the app is suitable for use by all ages.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
